Virtual Dialogue - International Day of Peace: Shaping Peace Together (SDG #16)

Recorded Date: September 21, 2020

We are at a choice moment in history - never before has the idea of convening for Peace been more urgent. The convergence of movements like #BLM, climate activism, #MeToo, and Canadian Truth and Reconciliation amidst global waves of COVID-19 are a stark reminder of the need for cooperation across borders, sectors, and generations.

The UN is marking its 75th anniversary at this unprecedented time. Our global response to this disruption will determine how we recover, and whether we attain the Sustainable Development Goals through revitalized global partnership.

2020 must be a year of dialogue, where we come together as a human family to discuss our priorities, and the future we want for all. Global dialogue – and action – is now more urgent than ever. But global cooperation has been lagging. Will this pandemic bring the world closer together or lead to greater mistrust?

Together, our?Diversity Action Group?and?School of Humanitarian Studies?team hosted a virtual dialogue on Monday, September 21, 2020 to mark the "International Day of Peace: Shaping Peace Together (SDG #16). In this virtual dialogue, our hosts,?Olaolu Adeleye,?Athena Madan,?Ken Christie, and?Donna Desbiens?explored thoughts and visions for a more inclusive future with our distinguished panelists.

Recommendation from this virtual dialogue were forwarded to the UN General Assembly to inform global priorities for 2020 and beyond.
